A Learning Organization

A learning organization nurtures original and expanded thinking and adapts organizational behaviour to meet changes in knowledge that have been acquired, created or transferred. The focus of the learning organization is twofold:

  1. to prepare itself to survive the changes and ambiguity of the future, and
  2. to be innovative and lead the changes of the future.

Perhaps your organization is not yet ready to be a learning organization. What about your team? One key concept of the learning organization is 'whole team learning'. This is premised on the notion that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The focus of learning is to improve the collective intelligence of the unit or the organization to facilitate critical thinking and creativity.

As a leader, what steps have you taken to improve the collective intelligence of your unit or organization? How are you ensuring that the team, not just a few stars, is prepared to chart the way of the future, or at least navigate the changes successfully?
