"Leaders honor their core values, but they are flexible in how they execute them." - Colin Powell
In a recent dialogue with leaders across several disciplines and nations, the issue of context or environment became the subject of a rousing debate. Persons debated whether Mahatma Gandhi would be as effective a leader in Latin America as he was in India. Your life experiences, values and choices have brought you to the place of leadership that you currently hold. Changes in context as you progress are inevitable. How effective you are as a leader is not determined by your environment, but rather by how flexible you are to adapt to the environment without compromising your core values. Being true to the vision and your values under different circumstances engenders trust.
How are you perceived in different environments? Reflect on two situations where you were outside your comfort zone ( a new context). How did you demonstrate flexibility? What lessons did you learn?
